A minor change on the site, and surely not to cool, so here’s our plea for understanding. We added a captcha to the comment field. Captchas are dumb and annoying, we know, for example from Myspace. But we had to.

Every possibility to add a text on a site gets abused by spammers. Scribtee suffered from a row of spam attacks recently. User accounts got hacked and their names used to post links to dubious sites selling medication. Not only once, but sometimes 1573 times (like it happened to All In Me). No joke. No surprise that the site soon had an overdose, the browser hyperventilated and got stuck. This happened again and again and removing the drugs or other smut from our system took valuable time from our programmers.

So if you want to leave a comment now, please be so kind and retype these funny letters in order to prove you are a kind, cool, T-shirt and design loving human rather than a soulless spam bot forcing unhealthy and illegal drugs upon us. We very much hope this doesn’t keep you from leaving your comments. We’re hoping to find a more user friendly solution for the future.

As I already announced, we’re gonna start a new section to honour those designers that almost made it but lastly were outrun by others or simply fell prey to the fact that there can only be two winners a month. Nevertheless there’s far more good submissions than winners, so from time to time we’ll present a bunch of good ideas that we liked and we emphatically encourage the creators to send some more stuff in:

This brick woman was sent in by a.mar.illo. Mental refinery is one of his best designs he showed here, but alas… see above. Same is for Zaal by Eblis. An extraordinarily well executed drawing of a figure from Persian mythology … it can hardly get more classy than this. In the end he was seemingly disappointed that it didn’t win (so were some of us), but we hope he won’t give up trying!

Two more funny ones … the curious cat that gets a big surprise was created by Minasund, a prolific and frequent contributer to the contest (who also came up with “You are what you eat“). Her work has always a funny edge to it and we really hope she keeps up sending her lovely ideas in. Keuj from France gave us these hilarious snowmen which are far more cute than old Miss Hulda (Frau Holle as we say here). Let it snow… maybe we’ll think of this again when winter comes.

Two love monsters: On the left side: a four handed love monster on a cloud that was designed by medialuna from Buenos Aires. What exactly makes it a love monster (when he obviously talks about death) – we’re not sure. Its anatomical shape reminds a bit of a human love monster body part … or is this just my imagination? Anyway, it would have been a great shirt for sure. The rather sinister looking furry girl from dianiki has bred an ample discussion incorporating 54 (!) comments, all in Spanish, so I still would like to know what the heck they were talking about.

And to conclude this roundup: We have a bunch of symbols, assembled in one great design by Aman, asking us: What matters? Money, love, art, religion? T-Shirts maybe? And I still mourn for Ye olde music factory by Herds Of Birds not being printed. I would so totally wear this day and night…

We hope this little show has done justice to the designs and their creators who put in so much love and effort in their work, and maybe inspired them and you to keep on sending us your motives.

A tough race, but it’ s run. We send out congratulations to the winners of the scribtee design contest in March. And we introduce what will be our future shirts, and they’re destined to become favourite shirts:

Number one is our first winner from Australia. Yes, the other end of the world (for us). It’s called “Pencil” and was created by Rikki B. And it won for several reasons: Its idea is the scribtee itself! You scribble a few lines, you work it over, scan it, work it over again and in the end you have a design, and ideally a funky tee. That’s what scribtee is about and we love that it can be seen as a homage to drawing and creating design (whether this was intended or not). Plus: it is super stylish. Black, blue, pink. Or white, blue, pink. Whatever. Girls will love it. Not only. As you can see on his page rikkib.net this guy is as much of a T-shirt maniac as you can be. Not only he has a rich experience in creating great stylish T-shirt designs, being one of the Funky Duds he also is participating at one of our favourite T-Shirt blogs out there. So it’s a big honour for us to produce his tee and distribute it in our hemisphere.

Luz

The other shirt grand (500 big boys and 50 $ worth of shirt shopping) prize goes to ninhol from Brazil. His winning design is called  ”Luz“. This is the Spanish and Portugese word for “light”, as you might have already guessed. I like the contrast of a light bulb being in black and the white shirt around it.

Phew. More shirt goodness to come soon.

Time for another look behind the scenes right on the desks of the designers that bring you all these fine shirt motives. Today we’ll have some questions answered by Draco from Brazil. He is the one who designed ”Watch out for your own desires” – and not only that as you can see on the site. Extra props first for replying every question in two languages: Portugese and English. But since nobody in our office understands Portugese, we’ll leave it by the English version.

Please introduce yourself in a few words.

Well I am Draco, I’m a Brazilian designer born in a town called Nova Iguacu in Rio de Janeiro/Brasil.
And I love working with different styles, different techniques to each art. My website is
http://www.dracoimagem.com/estampas/index.htm

Tell us a little about your design, please. Where have you gotten the idea?
The idea was born by the saying ‘be careful with what you wish for. “ So I created a man who both wants to relax (represented by water) , but the water is troubled by storms – a symbol for his thoughts.

Are you living off designing?
Yes, designing is my life in all aspects. I live as a designer for some years already, and want to improve more and more.

Are you a T-Shirt-Freak yourself?
Yes, I love shirts, in all colors and styles, it’s a true addiction.

What art inspires you? Who are your favourite artists and influences?
I seek inspiration in anything, music, wine, dreams and everyday life.
Concerning artists, I seek inspiration in various and countless artists, perhaps that’s why I have the ease of working with many different styles. To mention some: Jim Lee, El Greco, Banksy, etc..

How much do you do by hand, how much with software?
70% of my work is done by hand, the other 30% is working on the PC with Corel, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Are there other shirts with your designs available?
Yes, all my work which has already been produced in competitions can be seen here: www.dracoimagem.com/estampas (scroll right)
Others are still in the process of production, but they’ll soon be available.

Your opinion about Scribtee? What do you like about it, what would you improve?
One thing I find very interesting is that the variety of styles of shirts approved, some sites prioritize very large prints, others prioritize small prints, some prefer funny prints , others more plastic prints. In Scribtee, we can see all this. One downside: you don’t deliver to Brazil.

Well, that may change some day. Meanwhile: big thumbs up and thanks to Draco! Make sure to check his site, there’s a whole lot to see.

Hi everybody. This is the blog of Scribtee.com and we’re gonna have some fun together.
