Nature is my mother

Nature is my mother

One new T-shirt is in the shop, and it is called “Nature is my mother“. A true freak of nature with a nice countryside hat. Berlin boy Lars Wunderlich, who calls himself TheW in our contest, did this amazing illustration. As well as the useful Mr. Tool who finally found a T-shirt home at Scribtee.com

Let’s go a bit into details and let the big W (not to be confused!) explain himself:

Hi Lars, please introduce yourself in a few words.

Hi world, i’m Lars Wunderlich aka. Thew aka. Look aka. Erw.Mc.Verve etc…. I’m a Berlin-based designer who is currently very busy with his Diploma work. I do alot of different creative stuff like Illustration, Graffiti, Type-design, Logos, CorporateDesign, Wallpaintings, T-shirts and loads of other stuff which can be decorated. I’m 27 years old and grew up in beatiful Mecklenburg Vorpommern in the north of Germany. I always wanted do something creative in my life. That was my dream and still is. I’m happy to be part of the great peachbeach-collective.

Who or what is ‘Peachbeach’ ?

Peachbeach is a design collective with an eye on illustrative design. Peachbeach are three crazy nervous guys. Falk Hoger, Attila Szamosi and me met in 2007 on a creative camp in the nice countryside of Brandenburg. We didn’t know each other very well, but painted a canvas together. It worked quite well and we realised that our minds fitted together, so we decided to do something together. That was the starting point of Peachbeach. Everybody is free to do what he wants, and sometimes we do stuff together. It depends on what we want to do.

Do you work as a full time designer?

I try hard.

Is there a way you would describe your style?

I cannot describe my style very well because it changes from time to time. It bores me to focus on one special style, so i spread my style into different direction of the creative universe. But I can say that I like well thought out detailed things. I don’t want to do bling bling stuff, which only looks good but has no really meaning behind its prettyness.

Mr. Tool

Tell us a bit about your design “Mr Tool“. How did you get the idea, what did you want to express?

Mr. Tool was originally a cover for a design book. Originally it was only the triangle without a face or a body. The cover didn’t make it, so i decided to do something with all these nice icons. I pushed some Icons from here to there and Mr.Tool popped out. He consists of some really helpfull design tools, so i thought maybe he could say this naughty slogan: USE ME. That’s it.

Even more interesting: What is this thing on “Nature is my mother“?

Yes, this story is a little bit different. I was on my way home from my parents house in hot summer. They live in the countryside  near the woods. I sat in the train doodling a bit, while wearing that hat and the sunglasses you can see in the design. I tryed to draw myself with the pen and this came to my mind. It is the best selfportrait I have ever made. I’m really happy with that, because it shows my deep respect for mother nature, but it also looks a bit chaotic and crazy – as I am. So this shirt is for the outdoorsmen and crazy professors. But actually nobody knows my little dirty plan of wearing somebodys selfportrait on a shirt except of you, dear reader. Hehe.

How much do you do by hand, how much by software?

As you can see in the storys, it depends on what I want to do and what I need. Sometimes I do everything with the graph-tablett, sometime by vector, sometimes by hand.

It's a brand new Morning! currently in the contest

What gives you visual inspiration?

Almost everything. Music, good books, good articles in the newspaper, friends, critiques, other designers and my girl.

What music do you listen to while working/ doodling?

I often listen to Major Lazer stuff (the Mad Decent Label is killer), nearly all Stones Throw artists (also a great label), Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve (great psychrock-stuff on a new dancefloorlevel) and a lot of Rap, Soul, Funk, Reaggea, Rave, Techno, Psychrock, Blues and everything between.

What would you recommend young aspiring designers who want to win shirt contests too?

Maybe: thinking and drawing, listen to critique and spreading the output.

Last words?

Biggupp to PB, MF, DX, TG. Okay sounds too cryptical. Yo biggupp to Frieda, Dad, Mike, Dennis, Mixi, Harf, Mother Nature, Whifffocker, Lidi <3, The Gang and all the loved ones.

A new tee has come to our store and its hotness has caused Scribtee’s overall temperature to raise by some degrees. Credit for that goes to Rachel Bilson, an actress most commonly known for her role as Summer Roberts  in The O.C. , but also starring in several full length movies.

Rachel Bilson

To create this design, artist Kevoe used one of the most beautiful photos there most be of her, gave it a nice rasterized look and added some graffiti in pink. This goes on a comfy AA shirt for men or ladies in the wonderful creme colour (like white, but not as boring). Beauty meets style on the Rachel Bilson T-Shirt, new at Scribtee.

The price goes to … Germany. Twice. Again. Hey, international Designers: how about catching up a bit?

Well, we should acknowledge that DXTRs first score here at Scribtee is a collaboration with French designer Reack. And the design itself is totally American: donuts, bullets, cops & coffee. So there should be enough international flavour for this to be a popular Scribtee: You’re under arrest, cause you’re the best. I just had to think of that awesome Mercury Rev video

Dxtr: You are a winner, cause you’re the best.

Drrrrriiiiiiiiiiinnng! Wake Up! You wimpy grub!

6265Peachbeach‘s Attila Szamosi turned the annoying ring of the alarm clock into a cutting-edge design! After Face Tattoo this is the second time he has a submission turned into a shirt.

Even though there’s nothing to like about annoying alarm clocks, there is much to like about this design. Congrats to Attila and to Dxtr who both are rewarded with 500 $ and a 50$ coupon.

And we also have a second prize this time: Ignacio from Spain sent us this funny interpretation of the tale of little red riding hood. With this shirt you might have something to explain to children… but this is worth the fun.

Wild Business

Wild Business

We have released a new tee shirt for your tee pleasure. It is called Wild Business and it is one for say … critics of capitalism. Lovers of good design. Tee maniacs. Women who always wanted to express what they think about the Alpha-male behaviour of business entrepreneurs, self-obsessed money makers, greedy speculators … or of course for men who think the same.

Wild Business was conceived by Jott (aka Tayo Gross) from Germany, the Designer who also created “All In Me“. If you’re interested you can learn more about him in our interview.

spaceman_blog

In the long time we run Scribtee.com this must be the first winner to come from the British isles. “I wanna be a Spaceman” was handed in by Mark “Snewo” Jenkins.

I still like the idea of it a lot. Mark explained: “Came up with this design while thinking about how many people wanted to be something exciting when they grew up (like a spaceman) and ended up in a regular 9 to 5.”

This makes it the ideal shirt for people who have their feet on the ground but their heads in the clouds, or in that case, stars.

lulublog

Dear readers, especially from non-German speaking countries, in case you do not know: Lulu & Jimi is a German film by director Oskasr Roehler that was in cinemas some months ago. Prior to the release a T-shirt design competetition for the film took place that was hosted by Scribtee.com

This makes this winner a special winner – first because it ran in an own contest; second it was not only chosen by the community and us, but also by a jury that included the director himself; third its talented young designer DeeDeeKid not only ran off with the Grand prize of €500 but also with a brand new and shiny MacBook sponsored by Apple dealer Gravis.

I still have no idea if this film is ever made available to other countries and languages. What remains is a mighty fine T-shirt with lovable details (such as the poodle shapes in the ice cream) that works even without knowing that it captures the 50s-Rock’n’Roll-Bubblegum & Soda with a dark twist to it-spirit of the film perfectly.

Lulu & Jimi – Ice Cream Love is now availiable for purchase on an asphalt grey American Apparel shirt for ladies & gents.

RedSoul_blog

Something, somewhere went terribly wrong …

Red Soul City” by Sven Palmowski aka a.mar.illo holds the sad Scribtee record of having the longest time in the waiting room, this indefinite time between the crowning as a winner and the actual release. That time that we are trying to shorten. However, forgetting to actually produce a tee won’t help in this issue. So once again: our apologies to a.mar.illo and a big thank you for being so patient and cool.

The shirt itself is called “Red Soul City” and it’s – guess what – all about red. It doesn’t take more than two shades of red / peach and the red shirt to create a bizarre looking city. Oddly enough I had the architecture of this image in mind when I read Lovecrafts’ “At The Mountains Of Madness” recently.  But let’s not think that this city was inhabited by Cthulhu creatures. It makes a great T-shirt after all …

This came to surface while we were cleaning out our lists a bit: “Children Truth” by Inaki “Kakolak” Gonzales was already ready a while ago, but, shame on us, we only managed to put it online now. And it happens that it is just ready for earth day. So here’s our take on the blog action for earth day. There couldn’t have been a better date for the release of a shirt like this: A child that scribbles the words “earth” and “heart” on the street. Talk about symbolism.

children_large

To celebrate this we introduce the shirt for a reduced price of 17 € – only for this day. So you better get them now than later.

The shirt itself is by American Apparel, and it’s good to know it gets printed on a shirt of a company that also is aware of sustainability.

Looking at the contest, march was a very good month in terms of design quality. For those months where more good designs emerge than we can print, we kept the option open to print more than two designs in a month and reward the designers with 300€ or $ (plus a coupon of course).

We did so this month. So congrats to Alvaro Arteaga from Chile. I instantly fell in love with his pirate design “Arrrr … my leg!” and I knew we just had to let this design come to life:

Arrr ... my leg!!

We believe that pirates are cooler than Ninjas, even if they occasionally have one of these weird days…

Second small prize goes to Mark “Snewo” Jenkins for his Spaceman. He describes his idea:

Spaceman

Came up with this design while thinking about how many people wanted to be something exciting when they grew up (like a spaceman) and ended up in a regular 9-5

Talk about it … a Rockstar manqué knows damn well what Mark is saying with that. What I like about this is that this office hero still wears his spae helmet and thus sorta has his head in the clouds. Don’t stop dreaming!

We have two new winners and they are called Jott and Artkore. Sounds familiar? Yep, they’re both guys who already won Scribtee once. However, this is because they submitted cool designs again.

Tape

Now with “Don’t Stop Playing” we finally have a tape inspired T-shirt. Jonas “Artkore” did this one and it looks a must-have to go clubbing.  You can never go wrong with audio tapes.

5655

And we loved this one by jott. One of his other designs “Me, my friends and I” was also very popular amongst you, but finally we went for “Wild Business“: it’s a little different from All In Me, it looks classy and if you want, you can take it as a comment to the financial misery. I recently read an interesting thought about this “Would the crisis have happened if brokers were mostly female?” Was it, in short, Testosterone drive that made the reckless striving for more and more gain that made the banks finally crash? The picture of a proud deer in a fine suit, showing his antlers, fits this thought pretty well. Whatever was on Tayo’s mind when he made this – he made it well.

Congrats to you both ! Don’t stop playing (with your graphic software) !
